Tutorials on how to use Photoshop, specific to managing images for the website.

This tutorial is useful for capturing an image from the screen that is not an image file that you can save or copy/paste directly into Photoshop for editing.  This is done using the PRINT SCREEN keyboard function, which takes a snapshot of whatever is on the screen and copies it as an image in the computer's clip board -- which can then be pasted into an word processing or graphic design application.

Examples of how this technique can be applied are:

  • Capturing a map on Google and resizing it to place the map on a marketing flyer or brochure.
  • Capturing slides from Microsoft Publisher or PowerPoint and embedding into Photoshop
  • Cropping / resizing images on the screen to a specific size

Helpful resources to help make managing the website both possible -- and easier!

An FTP application allows you to manage the files for the website (i.e. images, uploaded files, pages, etc.).  We DO NOT recommend managing the site via an FTP unless you're experience in doing.  Changing the settings and/or removing core files can impact the functionality of the website.

Download a FREE FTP APPLICATION called FILEZILLA.

The industry standard used for editing images and website banners is Adobe Photoshop.  However, if you're not already using it or don't already own it -- the application is both expensive and takes quite a bit of time to master.

Having said that, to perform simple image edits, such as cropping, resizing, or saving the image to an acceptable file format for the site, we recommend using a FREE web-based image editing application called PIXLR.

Clieck here to use the PIXLR PHOTO EDITOR application.
