Dear Parent or Guardian,

Mentoring and Discipleship of the young adult male is a critical, yet underutilized ministry within the Mountain View Community Church. The challenges that our young men face continue to surmount, exemplified by media misrepresentation of manhood in our culture; single mother’s raising boys without the presence of a spiritual male role model/father figure; absence of reinforcement of family values and limited access to real life mentors. Mentoring programs work, and with committed partnership, can shift the paradigm from a “perception of despair” to a “reality of hope”.

To address the needs of the young men in our church and community, we are proud to announce “The Joshua Academy for Young Men”. This discipleship ministry is designed to strategically matriculate the junior high school-age boy “Joshua’s Troop” through high school “ Young Men Under Construction” into committed young adult men “Joshua’s Men”, with the focus of presenting young men an opportunity of living an honorable life unto the Lord.

The mentors in the program are a diverse group of spiritually mature men, representing a vast array of occupations and experience. Each mentor is carefully screened prior to being matched with a student, and is eager to share insight with his assigned Mentee. You can expect the mentor to spend “quality” time with your student involving group Discipleship studies, seminars, workshops, physical fitness training, and social outings, all to promote unity within the groups.

We are very excited about the events we have planned for the upcoming year, and cordially invite you and your student to participate in this pilot program.

Interested students will be required to submit an application, with selection based upon student interview, parent commitment and space availability.

God Bless,

Dr. Billy J. McCarty

Mentor Coordinator
