Position Accountability Description: Board of DirectorsWhat is a Board of Directors? Simply put, a Board of Directors is a group of members who are charged with the responsibility to provide oversight for the corporation. The Board of Directors is an integral part of the ministry of Mountain View Church. The Board of Directors serve at the pleasure and under the authority of the Elder’s Council. They set policies and procedures that management is empowered to fulfill. Individual members of the Board support the Senior Pastor, and his vision for the church. The Purpose of Board of Directors Board of Directors helps management and develops organizational plans, policy objectives, and organizational strategy. The Elder’s Council, Board of Directors and a congregational search committee will select the Senior Pastor of the church, if and when that position is vacant, supports his leadership, reviews his performance, and may dismiss him if with cause and support of the congregation. The Board helps ensure effective organizational planning and sees that ministry resources are managed effectively. The Board of Directors also sees that the ministry meets regulatory requirements and through the Senior Pastor assess its own performance. Directors monitor the ministries financial performance and the success of its ministry, its services and strategies. Mission: Directors must understand and support the churches Vision and Mission and participate in strategic planning to ensure corporate support of the ministries purposes, priorities, financial standing, goals, and objectives. Finances: Directors assure financial responsibility by: 1.Approving the annual budget and overseeing adherence to it. 2.Contracting for an independent audit 3. Controlling the investment policies and management of capital or reserve funds. Duties of Board of Directors 1.Board of Directors and Elder’s Council are accountable to the congregation. a.They review and evaluate the Pastor’s performance regularly on the basis of a specific job description, consisting of executive relations with the board, leadership in the church, program planning and implementation, and management of the ministry and its personnel. 2.Govern the organization by broad policies and objectives, formulated and agreed upon by the Pastor and employees, including assigning priorities and ensuring the ministry’s capacity to carry out programs by continually reviewing its work. 3.Account to the congregation for the maintenance of the church and expenditures of its funds, including: a.To oversee the fiscal accountability, pre-approving the budget, and formulating policies related to contracts from public or private resources. b.To accept responsibility for all conditions and policies attached to new, innovative, or experimental programs/ministries.
Function and Position Descriptions: Board of Directors1. Appointment Qualifications: 1.1 An active male or female church member (Hebrews 10:25). 1.2 Meets the biblical qualifications of a mature Christian (1 Tim 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9; and Titus 2: 1-15) 1.3 Be a man or woman whose life demonstrates spiritual integrity and vitality (Ps 1:1-3) • A man/woman of faith and vision • A man/woman who is in touch with God 1.4 Supports the church through tithes & offerings (Malachi 3:8-10) 1.5 Meets the requirements for church leadership 2. Selection: 2.1 The selection of prospective new Directors will be determined by the existing Elders Council 2.2 The wives/husbands of prospective new Directors must be in harmony with the appointment of their husbands/wives to this role. (1 Peter 3:1-7) 2.3 If any man or woman is considered not qualified, they will be told the reason with a view as to rectify the growth aspect of his life that has been highlighted. 3. Functions: (Oversight & Support) 3.1 The Board of Directors own, protect and promote the vision given by the Senior Pastor along with the vision, purpose and values of the church. 3.2 The Board of Directors lead by example. The lives of the Directors must reflect the commitment to holiness, godliness and integrity. 3.3 All Directors are to be managers of the churches fiscal accounts under the authority of the Elder’s Council. 3.4 Accountability is a key function of each Director. They must be accountable and are responsible to hold each other accountable. They are accountable to the Elders Council for the management of the churches finances and ultimately accountable to God.
